Ghana held its inaugural celebration of International Men's Day in November 2009 (see details below). The event was conceived and organized by the Ghana Fatherhood Initiative Foundation and was hailed a great success. Due to strong publicity this event received in Ghana and around the world, Samuel NiiTeiko Tackie, founder and President of GFIF was invited to act as IMD coordinator for all Ghana by International Men's Day founder Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh. He greatfully accepted the task.

Mr. Tackie has announced that this year's theme for International Men's Day is - 'MEN - WE CAN DO BETTER'. Groups and individuals throughout Ghana who are interested in observing International Men's Day should contact Saumuel Tackie for a description of the core IMD Objectives, and for any advice regarding GFIF activities, or about how to establish individual events. He has created a Facebook page for IMD in Ghana ( Click Here ) and has engaged in discussions and forward IMD planning with the GFIF Executive Management Council and the Chairman of the Advisory Board, Mr.George Odame.

International Men's Day - 2009


Ghana Fatherhood Initiative Foundation is a registered NGO in Ghana established to promote and encourage committed,available and responsible fatherhood in Ghana, also to appreciate fathers. Samuel NiiTeiko Tackie, founder and President of GFIF is organising  an International Men's Day event which involves donating books to selected Schools in Mamprobi-Accra to conside with Universal Children's day. The event will be chaired by Mr.George Odame, the advisory board chairman of Ghana Fatherhood Initiative Foundation, who encourages all fathers to read to their children as part of responsible fathehood. The special guest of hounour is Maxwell Mac.Ocloo who will deliver a speech entitled 'Men - let us be instruments of positive influence' in which men will be encouraged to lead by example. Press releases to selected radio stations in the regional Capitals in Ghana have been sent and interviews about the event took place.

International Men's Day was on the 19th, and the book donation on 20th November at the Mamprobi Polyclinic, Mamprobi-Accra.
